“...The old man’s hour had come! With a loud yell, I threw open the lantern and leaped into the room. He shrieked once — once only. In an instant I dragged him to the floor, and pulled the heavy bed over him. I then smiled gaily, to find the deed so far done. But, for many minutes, the heart beat on with a muffled sound. This, however, did not vex me; it would not be heard through the wall. At length it ceased. The old man was dead. I removed the bed and examined the corpse. Yes, he was stone, stone dead. I placed my hand upon the heart and held it there many minutes. There was no pulsation. He was stone dead. His eye would trouble me no more…”

In response to the challenges posed by the pandemic, Helping Hearts Dance embraced our connection to one another, continuing to create and dance together. This connection kept us calm, focused, and hopeful. Our piece evokes gossamer threads of Creation, Time, Giving, Gratitude, and Protection that are interwoven as the dancers move through space. We are grateful to be able to share our journey with you.

Boundless Echo- Greensboro Ballet
Choreography:Michela Semenza
Dancers:Genevieve Basu, Elisa Arauz, Jayla Winborne
Music: Tom Pieciak
My new work titled “Boundless Echo”, a brand-new composition by my friend Tom Pieciak, Butler University Alumni is about the reverberation of sound. The collection of sounds that can create a continuing effect on the body and the mind. An echo that lingers and leads you into the next collection of thoughts. Sinking and dropping your body into the ground, feeling voices in a room and the sounds around you, bringing the body to a calming place. A place of adventure, change and opportunity. A white room with never ending spaces and ideas. The music has texture, tone and the multitude of sounds that build gradually throughout the piece. Lending itself to more wonder and possibility.
